Homework Room 9 Term 3 Week 6

Reading homework as you do each week.

Welcome to Week 6!
If your child is doing a project for Ag day a timeline has been given to them with this homework. This timeline breaks the project down into manageable stages for the teachers to check up on to make sure that an appropriate amount of effort is being applied to completing the exciting scarecrow project . If the first box is highlighted your child has already missed the first checkpoint and must bring their plans in to show me tomorrow or risk spending some of their lunch time catching up with the others.
At the three way conferences I said to many parents that I would send home some guidelines for the speeches this week. I have attached a copy of the criteria and a letter about the speech competition (double sided). To support you in helping your child write a speech at home I have outlined below how I have been teaching them to write their speech at school.
 Pick a topic they know lots about or research one.
 Brainstorm everything they know.
 Interesting beginning to get audience ‘s attention.
 State their topic.
 Mention the 2-3 ideas they intend to discuss.
 Talk about the 2-3 ideas in detail (this is the body of the speech).
 Finish off with 2-3 sentences concluding their speech.
I have talked to the class about their main audience being children so their language should be informal. Interesting facts or jokes could be included to keep the audience’s attention throughout the speech. It should be 2 minutes long.
It is now week 6. The children have 2 weeks to write a speech at home. Every child is expected to share their speech in front of our class as this is vital for their confidence and public speaking skills. A class competition will be held in week 7. Two finalists will be chosen to share at the junior school competition in week 9.
