Numeracy testing and grouping - notes from Meet the Teacher BBQ

Developing Groups -
• Data collected from previous year passed on to next T
• New assessments also done T 1
• NumPa assess 2011 – assessing child’s strategy level
• and number knowledge – this identifies gaps and helps the T group according to levels. Groups can change.
• Teaching initially may be mainly knowledge to build a foundation for strategy learning.
Frequency of testing –
• At the end of a unit eg Measurement. May be formative/summative. Peer /Individual.
• According to need- eg child displays understanding and could be moved to a new group. Can be confirmed with
• “ a snap shot assessment “ to confirm Ts observations.
• Types of assessments that guide learning – range, purpose. Some individual, group, class wide or school wide assess.
Other:
• Numeracy workshops
• Home numeracy kits to support number knowledge learning.
• Parental support- goals child want to achieve.
